Life Superbiodiesel project was one of the leading actors in the event “Generación de Recursos Energéticos y Movilidad sostenible” (Sustainable Mobility and Energy Resources Generation) organised by ETSIME in the framework of the ”Jornadas de Otoño” (Autumn Workshops), hosted by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid as a networking and meeting point for research initiatives related to this topic.
Events and workshops on specific issues provide a venue which enables experts to define a meeting point and keep abreast of the state of the art in the corresponding field.
After the presentation given by Mr. Jose Luis Gálvez, from IMDEA Energy, great interest was sparked regarding performance of supercritical technology and its major contribution in terms of sustainability.
Then, practical issues were raised, such as the possibility of adapting biodiesel obtained under this project to conventional biodiesel already in the market.
Finally, the greatest interest was drawn by several sustainability issues, the main ones being some topics such as combustion versus pollution, energy consumption and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) as well as other aspects of impact.
Life Superbiodiesel project shall generate both biodiesel and biostimulants through a process, which will allow for reducing water consumption under enzymatic hydrolysis process by 96%. Prospective LCA has also demonstrated at laboratory scale to potentially reduce carbon footprint by 80% when compared to conventional biodiesel, while by 35% if to 1st generation biodiesel, thus significantly reducing its impact.
Life Superbiodiesel project will enable oil refineries’ and fuel delivery suppliers to expand their range of products with a brand new and fully available advanced biofuel, which is not to alter the current supply chain nor to pose additional environmental risks. This biofuel is sustainable produced, surpassing current regulatory framework while meeting the demand expectations.
The event took place in a hybrid format -face-to-face & online- and was participated by about 45 people, of whom approximately 40% were students, which is to say the future in the short to medium term, when it comes to implement the latest developments achieved in the energy field. We would like to express our gratitude for the invitation to LIFE SMART AgroMobility project, which hopefully will bring along a fruitful collaboration in a short time.
